Jarin Tasnim Raisa
I am come from Madaripur in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently I am living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S. I have been living in U.S for 4 months in an exchange program called "Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program. "This program has truly changed my life bringing lots of blessings and opportunities in my life.
1. It has given me chance to spread my culture all over the world and made cultural bridge between Bangladesh and U.S.
2. I got chance to give many presentations in my U.S High school, varsity and other places. Now most of the students, teachers and my host relatives know a lot about our rich history, cultural diversity and our sacrifice for liberation war. Before I came here, most of them didn't know where is Bangladesh.
3. As many of my host relatives, teachers and students are fascinated by the beauty and diversity of our country that they want to come Bangladesh.
4. I am involved with lots of voluntary and, extra-curricular activities. They help me to contribute in my society as well as they will help me to contribute in my own society in Bangladesh.
5. People here are so friendly and helpful. All my teachers help me a lot for my studies. I can get free tutoring here. I am also getting good grades here. All has become possible for my teacher and host family.
6. Before I came here, I heard a lots of things that as I am Muslim and I wear hijab, they can think me terrorist and ignore me. But proving me wrong, they liked and respected me as I am Muslim and I wear hijab. Even for Christmas I got 3 hijabs.
7. I am going different places like museums, city hall, heritage center and other places that helps me to enhance my practical knowledge. I have achieved an award called "Honorary Tulsian Certificate " from Tulsa City Hall.
8. Alhamdulillah I have been able to make people loved with Bangladeshi food, dance and song.
9. Truly speaking, this exchange program has changed me as well as my life. It has made me more open-minded, thoughtful, kind, patriotic and skillful.
10. I am grateful to U.S Department of State, Y.E.S Program, World Learning (My placement Organization), Tulsa Global Alliance, my host family, my U.S High School Teachers and Bangladeshi local co-ordinators for giving me such a great opportunity.
